Bikers harass, chase couple in car on Mysuru-Bengaluru highway

The goons were either trying to rob them or wanted to harass a woman as they were drunk

BENGALURU: A couple had a horrific experience on the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway when three goons on two bikes forced them to stop their car, in a bid to waylay them. However, they had a narrow escape as in their bid to flee the goons’ clutches, they hit another vehicle, which caused a traffic jam and invited the attention of locals. The goons fled in panic. The incident was reported near Bidadi on Sunday night while the husband and wife were returning from Kerala. Dr Richa Jackeray and her husband have reported the matter to the police.

Narrating the ordeal, Dr. Jackeray said, “We were driving back to Bengaluru from my husband’s native place. After we reached Bidadi, three people on two bikes came and started honking continuously to scare us. They came from both sides and decreased the speed of their bikes in front of our car. They told us to stop our car and continued honking. We tried to increase the speed and escape, but could not due to the traffic and frequent humps. We dialled 100 but were not able to provide the exact location to police. Then one of the bikers started applying brakes continuously and finally we were forced to stop on the right side of the road.”

“Once we stopped, they parked their bikes and ran towards our vehicle. They tried to open the back door, but fortunately it was locked. They then tried to break the glass, banged on side window and windshield with helmets and a rod.

“We got scared and suddenly my husband tried to reverse the car and drive off. During the attempt we hit another car, belonging to Rajesh a local resident. He stopped his vehicle and it created a traffic jam and we appealed to people for help. Once the goons saw that people had begun to gather, they disappeared from the scene,” she explained.

“We were terrified and confused, and asked Rajesh to help us in finding the nearest police station. He escorted us to Bidadi police station. We narrated our story to the in-charge there and he consoled us. We filed the complaint and returned home safe,” she said.

The goons were either trying to rob them or wanted to harass a woman as they were drunk, she added. Later, Dr. Jackeray approached the Bengaluru police and has revealed to them the registration numbers of both the bikes (KA-04-GH-8469 and KA-04-HD-2669). The city police have transferred the case to the Bidadi police station in Ramanagar district as the incident took place there.
