Actor S. Ve. Shekher files defamation suit against CBFC official

Case was filed was allegedly posting derogatory messages in a WhatsApp group
Chennai: Actor S. Ve. Shekher, who is also a member of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), has filed a defamation case against an official in the CBFC, Chennai, for allegedly posting derogatory messages in a WhatsApp group. In his petition, Shekher, who has staged over 6,000 dramas and acted in 90 Tamil films, submitted that the ministry of Information and broadcasting appointed him as a member of CBFC for a period of three years from January 19, 2015.
He said, “In a letter dated February 6, he sought certain details from V. Packirisamy, regional censor board officer, CBFC, Chennai, regarding current protocol, functions and process being followed for certifying films”. He sought the details with an intention to ensure transparency in the process. Since then, he has been posting defamatory and derogatory postings in WhatsApp.
In one such posting on February 21, Packirisamy stated that Shekher was proclaiming himself as a regional chairman of CBFC, Chennai.
Such postings damaged his reputation, he stated. Hence, he filed the petition against Packirisamy before principal sessions court on Monday seeking action against the official.
