Duminy backs struggling Yuvraj, terms him ‘Massive player for DD’

Duminy however, feels that the star batsman will come good in the later stages
New Delhi: The most expensive player at this year’s Indian Premier League auction, Yuvraj Singh has not exactly made the right noises. Bought for Rs 16 crore, Yuvraj has scored just 124 runs in seven innings in the current IPL season at an average of 17.71 with one half century to his name. He continued his poor run in the 10-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore here on Sunday evening, scoring just two.
Delhi Daredevils captain J.P. Duminy however, feels that the star batsman will come good in the later stages of the T20 league. “It is easy to criticise him. He has not had great opportunities in the matches we have done well and I think he will be the first to admit that he would have loved to contribute.
“He is a massive player for us and I am confident that he is going to come good for us in the later parts of the tournament,” Duminy said. While Yuvraj is struggling with poor form, another senior player Zaheer Khan is yet to take the field for the Daredevils amid rising speculations over his fitness. But Duminy said the veteran pacer will be available for the game against Kings XI Punjab on May 1.
“I think he (Zaheer) is about 95 per cent fit to be honest. My thinking is, he will be up for selection for the game on the first. His progress has been good, he has been very determined to comeback and represent Delhi,” said Duminy. The South African also ruled out drastic changes in the team despite Delhi’s inconsistent run.
