Toon characters to take away pain of young patients
The 12-bedded ward, was inaugurated by state health minister
Chennai: Taking treatment at the renovated paediatric orthopaedic ward at Rajiv Gandhi government general hospital here will no longer be a “frightful” experience for kids. They can ingest the ‘bitter’ syrup or take the injection sting with ease while getting drowned amidst an interesting array of toon characters on the walls.
Toon characters like Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Tom and Jerry, Sheriff Woody and Jessie from Toy Story, beautifully painted on the walls of the paediatric orthopaedic ward enhance the ambience and this child-friendly ward, which can evoke the envy of the swanky corporate hospitals in the city.
This 12-bedded ward, renovated at a cost of Rs 1.2 lakh, was inaugurated by state health minister C. Vijaya Baskar on Monday. To suit the atmosphere, the authorities have provided attractive pillow covers and bedspreads too.
Also, the minister inaugurated a sports clinic and intensive care unit for compound fractures, at a cost of Rs 16 lakh and Rs 15 lakh respectively. “The sports clinic will provide specialised treatment to sportspersons. A dedicated team of experts including sports physiologists, sports medicine, dietitian and sports physiotherapists will attend to the problems of sportspersons,” Mr Vijaya Baskar said. The clinic, functioning on Tuesdays, will take sports medicine to a new high in the state.
Health secretary, Dr J. Radhakrishnan, director of medical education Dr S. Geetha Lakshmi, dean of RGGGH, Dr R. Vimala, and director in-charge of institute of orthopaedics and traumatology, Dr N. Deen Muhammad Ismail, spoke.
