Supreme Court refuses to hear plea for CBI probe into firing
New Delhi: Pointing out that the Hyderabad High Court is seized of the “fake encounter issue”, the Supreme Court on Monday asked two petitioners seeking CBI probe to approach the High Curt for relief.
A bench of Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice Arun Mishra told counsel for the petitioners that since the High Court was already hearing similar matters it was better they approached the High Court.
The petitioners pleaded for a CBI probe or probe by Special Investigation Team headed by former CBI director R.K. Raghavan into the alleged fake encounter killings of 20 labourers from Tamil Nadu by the Andhra Pradesh police on April 7.
In a writ petition Mr. Thirumavalavan, alleged that innocent people living near AP and TN border areas were being harassed, arrested and killed in fake encounters.
He said in a recent fake encounter 20 wood cutters from the districts of Krishnagiri, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai of Tamil Nadu were killed in a most brutal manner.
He said these labourers go to AP to cut red sandalwood trees in the Seshachalam hill ranges spread over 350 kilometres. At least seven workers were picked up by the police and were kept in the deep forest to give the spin that they were killed in exchange of fire.
