Wife of dead official gives statement
CB-CID working against culprits
Tirunelveli: Contrary to political apprehensions that the state CB-CID police investigating senior agriculture engineer S. Muthukumarasamy’s suicide may be lethargic and favour the accused, including former minister S.S. Krishnamoorthy, it seems that the CB-CID is steadily moving to strengthen the case against the culprits.
Poovaiah, the personal assistant of former minister Krishnamoorthy arrested on the allegation of threatening Muthukumarasamy in connection with filling driver post vacancies
in the agriculture department in Tirunelveli, gave a statement under section 164 of the CrPC before the Sankarankoil chief judicial magistrate court last week.
This is said to be the game plan of the investigating agency, according to a highly-placed source at the CB-CID. It was police on whose advice Poovaiah came forward to give the statement under section 164 of CrPc, said the police officer.
Following Poovaiah, Muthukumarasamy’s wife Saraswathy also gave her statement in the case under section 164 of CrPc in the same Sankarankoil court on Monday, this, too, on the advice of the police.
They are said to be planning to net some more suspects, who are reported to have threatened Muthukumarasamy over phone, demanding money to fill up driver post vacancies in the department.
As this is a high-profile case, the investigating authorities are handling the case carefully, according to CB-CID sources. “Had the investigation been an eyewash, the former minister of the ruling party would not have been arrested,” said a police officer, who also pointed to the CB-CID’s strong objection to grant bail, either to the former minister or his co-accused, agriculture chief engineer, M. Senthil, in the case.
Investigation being at the initial stage, the two prime accused, if released on bail, may influence the witnesses, feel the police.
