Tiruchy: The all women police station personnel at Cantonment, Tiruchy, are on the look-out for inspector Murugesan, now working in Tirunelveli district and said to be absconding, in connection with a rape case.
The rape victim, Parimala of K.K. Nagar in the city, who has been admitted to the government hospital, has begun an indefinite fast there demanding his immediate arrest. Complainant Parimala said inspector Murugesan, who served in the social justice and human rights unit of Tiruchy city before his transfer to Tirunelveli district, developed intimacy with her. She also gave him Rs 4 lakh after he was trapped by the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption, Tiruchy unit, in a corruption case a few years ago.
Murugesan, serving as the station house officer of airport police station at the time, was placed under suspension following his arrest, she added. But after misunderstanding developed between her and Murugesan, she asked the inspector to return her money. But, she said, he not only did not repay her but also raped her in her house a few days ago and left Tiruchy.
Based on her complaint, the Cantonment all women police station personnel booked a case against the inspector under various sections of IPC. Parimala, who has been admitted to the Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital, Tiruchy, began her indefinite fast from Monday, saying that she will not give up her protest till Murugesan is arrested.
