Nepal through Bollywood lens

Nepal experienced one of the most devastating earthquakes in the history of mankind

1. Baby: Nepal has for long been seen in cinema as a land of mystery and intrigue. The action scenes in the Akshay Kumar espionage thriller featuring Taapsee Pannu and Sushant Singh were shot in Nepal. Akshay says he had a spiritually rejuvenating time shooting in Nepal.

2. Hare Rama Hare Krishna: No Bollywood filmmaker loved Nepal as much as Dev Anand. He repeatedly shot his films in the Himalayan idyll. Most memorable among them was this brother-sister film. Almost the entire film was shot in the by-lanes of Kathmandu.

3. Ishq Ishq Ishq: After Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Dev Saab fell in love with Kathmandu. With the visually lush lenses of cinematographer Fali Mistry, Dev Saab shot this breathtaking film higher up in the Himalayas. No Bollywood film has captured Nepal so well.

5. Gharwali Baaharwali: A silly film about Anil Kapoor and his two wives played by Raveena Tandon and Rambha, one Indian the other Nepali. David Dhawan shot the film almost entirely in Nepal.

6. Khuda Gawah: When Mukul Anand’s opus got into locational trouble in Afghanistan, Nepal came to the film’s rescue. In parts of the narrative, the country stood in for Afghanistan.

8. Johnny Mera Naam: Parts of this espionage thriller were shot in Nepal. Vijay Anand created a sense of mystery and excitement in the midst of the Himalayan tranquillity by simultaneously summoning the spiritual and the physical aspects of the drama inherent in Nepal.

9. Yudh: Rajiv Rai’s action thriller went to Nepal to seek virgin locations. The visual novelty of the film went a long way in making it a success.

10. Ram Bharose: Chal Chal Re Kathmandu Milenge Wahaan Shambu, sang Kishore Kumar for Randhir Kapoor in a film that’s remembered only for its Nepal yatra.
