260 TMC feet of water can be stored, announces CM
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao launches the Mission Kakatiya project at Chandupatla village in Nakrekal Assembly constituency of Nalgonda district by digging the ground on Sunday.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday announced that as much as 260 tmc ft of water could be stored in the state’s irrigation tanks after restoration through Mission Kakatiya.
The CM participated in a Mission Kakatiya programme at Chand-upatla village in the Nakrekal Assembly segment of Nalgonda district, where the famous Kakatiya queen Rudra-madevi had become a martyr in war 800 years ago. Mr Rao said his government had taken up the restoration works of all tanks in Telangana that was constructed and conceived by the Kakatiya Reddy rulers.
He also announced an additional sanction of Rs 1.5 crore towards restoration works of the Chandupatla tank besides constructing a memorial and statue of “Rani Rudrama Devi” on the bund. He said after restoration of the tank to its original area, thousands of acres in seven villages would receive regular supplies for raising crops. The CM added that plans were underway to connect the tank to the Srisailam Left Bank Canal feeder channel to ensure continuous supply of water.
He reminded the gathering that way back in 1974, the Bachawat Commission had allotted 260 tmc ft of Godavari and Krishna River waters to thousands of tanks in Telangana, but due to negligence by previous governments, Telangana had been deprived of its legitimate share all these years. Mr Rao also announced developing the Chandupatla tank as a tourist centre including conducting Kakatiya Cultural shows annually.
