Tremors felt in Godavari districts
The tremors occured in district for nearly 10-15 seconds
Rajahmundry/Kakinada: Following high intensity earthquake in Nepal, mild tremors were felt for a few seconds in parts of Godavari districts on Saturday. Under its impact, people living especially in multi-storey apartments ran out of them for safety. Some people said that they felt the low-intensity tremors in their feet and thought something was moving beneath them while some others felt reeling sensation.
However, people came out from apartments and inquired about their family members and kin living in other parts of the state to find out about their safety and shared their experience.
Earthquake occurred along the Kakinada coast and also in the Bay of Bengal. The crew personnel in offshore rigs experienced severe tre-mors. The tremors were felt in many of the pl-aces such as Kakinada, U.Kothapalli, Madhav-apatnam, Mummidiva-ram, Amalapuram, P. Gannavaram, Katre-nikona and other areas in East Godavari district. It occurred around 11.35 am, according to the officials. District Revenue Officer B. Yad-agiri said that it lasted nearly 10 to 15 seconds, and occurred in many places in the district.
Kakinada Revenue Divisional Officer B.R. Ambedkar and Amala-puram RDO Mr Ganesh confirmed the tremors and they also felt it, while they were working, when their chairs rocked. Ambedkar said that the tremors occurred mostly in coastline area.
“The tremors occurred around 11.35 am for 10 to 15 seconds,” said Ambe-dkar. Some of the crew in offshore rigs of oil and exploration companies informed about the tremors to their higher authorities, colleagues and their family members through SMS and Whats APP messages. One message is that “Severe earthquake felt at the field of Jack up rigs around 11.40 am.”
The tremors triggered panic in the citizens of Kakinada and surrou-nding places and the people ran out from the apartments and multi-storied buildings and commercial complexes. The port employees including those of Kakinada Sea Ports Limited ran out from the Port Office building.
According to port officials, the tremors were felt in Kakinada Deep Water port also. The personnel in the ships also came out from the vessels. Panic stricken residents asked the repo-rters and officials if an-ymore tremors can occ-ur as they heard that New Delhi experienced aftershocks. Some of the people felt that their blood pressure increa-sed at once as they felt tremors in their working place.
In Kakinada, the tremors were felt in Ramaraopet, Gandh-inagar, Godarigunta, Jagannaickpur, Main Road and other places. Students and teachers in educational institutions in these areas ran out from their schools. Kakinada RDO B.R. Ambedkar said that he had submitted a report on earthquake at Kakinada division to the government.
