Telangana plans Gajwel education hub

Rs 100 crore has been invested for the education hub
Hyderabad: Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s constituency Gajwel could have the first proper education hub in the state, given the government is moving briskly towards it. An investment of Rs 100 crore for the education hub has been earmarked. With plans to convert the Race Course in Malakpet having long been shelved, Gajwel has now become the top contender for an education hub. The Telangana government has also started to bring together all existing schools and colleges in one place. Sources said that setting up of the Gajwel education hub would be taken up in phases.
The CM had long back proposed to convert the Race Course in Malakpet into an educational hub. But that plan was scrapped in the initial stages itself. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority had also proposed an education city near Jawaharnagar in 2013. However, with the plan for the Gajwel education hub the initial plan seems to have taken a backseat.
Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari had recently visited Gajwel to ascertain the level of facilities already available and the requirement for the education hub. The TS government is moving briskly and has already begun work for shifting and construction of all the existing education institutions to one place.
“There are schools, junior colleges and degree colleges for boys and girls. The government has ordered the shifting of these to one place which will be the education hub,” a senior school education department official said.
But the government is also considering new educational institutions including an engineering college in the same campus. “We want to do it in a phased manner. The existing institutions are being shifted now. After that we will try to setup new institutions like an engineering college. Plans are being chalked out,” sources in the education department said.
