Bengaluru: Peenya police inspector in dock after caning crowd
The inspector has been accused of using foul language against mediapeople

BENGALURU: A departmental inquiry has been initiated against Yathiraj, inspector of Peenya police station (Law & Order), on Saturday for his alleged unruly behaviour at an accident spot on Tumakuru road at T Dasarahalli.
The inspector has been accused of using foul language against mediapeople who were at the spot where a speeding BMTC bus mowed down a pedestrian on Friday night. Police resorted to caning to disperse the crowd that had gathered at the spot. Mediapersons protested against the inspector’s act of preventing them from doing their work.
According to the police, the incident happened around 11.30 pm after the pedestrian was hit by the bus. As people gathered there, Yathiraj arrived at the spot and began beating them with a cane. He also allegedly hurled abuses at mediapeople.
Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi initiated an inquiry after the alleged unruly behaviour of the inspector was brought to his notice. He directed T.R. Suresh, DCP, North Division, to submit a report to him after conducting an inquiry.
Mr. Suresh told DC that an inquiry had been initiated into the incident. Mediapeople, who had claimed that they had been assaulted by the inspector, had been asked to register a complaint, following which an inquiry would be conducted, he said.
