Bengaluru: Administrator TM Vijay Bhaskar suspends two engineers over uncleared garbage heaps

Mr Bhaskar found that heaps of garbage had not been cleared for the last three days

Bengaluru: Angry that heaps of garbage had remained uncleared on city roads, administrator T.M Vijay Bhaskar suspended two engineers during a surprise inspection on Saturday morning. Accompanied by BBMP Commissioner G. Kumar Naik and other BBMP officials, Mr Bhaskar conducted the inspection from Banashankari Temple to NICE Road Junction on Kanakapura Road.

Mr Bhaskar found that heaps of garbage, dumped opposite to Banashankari Temple, had not been cleared for the last three days. Also, the waste generated at Banashankari Market was being dumped on the road. A few kilometres away, he found garbage dumps near Yellama Dasappa College on Kanakapura Road.

The BBMP officials said that garbage was dumped on at least 20 different spots starting from Banashankari till NICE Road Junction. Meanwhile, pourakarmikas complained to Mr Bhaskar that the contractors were not supplying them with hand gloves, gum boots and other basics to carry out their work. Mr Bhaskar suspended Assistant Executive Engineer Shashikumar and Assistant Engineer Vijayananda on the spot.

“Left to your own devices, you will not learn a lesson. You set a bad example and others too will follow in your footsteps. Let other officials learn from this,” he said, while suspending the two. He sent out a warning message to other officials, saying that he would conduct surprise checks regularly and those not performing their duties would be suspended on the spot.
