Andhra Pradesh bids fond farewell to its best mountaineer
The entire village was on the roads to pay their last respects to the son of the soil
Nellore: Thousands of people bid a tearful farewell to ace mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu at his native village Gandhi Jana Sangam, 30 km from Nellore city in AP on Saturday.
People from various parts of the state and district thronged the village for a last glimpse of the mountaineer. The entire village was on the roads to pay their last respects to the son of the soil. It may be recalled that Malli Mastan Babu, who had set a record of climbing seven summits in a record time of 172 days, went missing during an expedition to Andes Mountain in Argentina on March 24. He was found dead in the Andes a few days later.
There has been a delay in bringing the body to his native place due to inclement weather in the Argentina Mountains. A team led by Babu’s mountaineering friend Hernan scaled the mountain and brought back the body to base camp after efforts to bring back the body by a helicopter failed due to bad weather.
