GK Vasan slams BJP, soft on Dravidian parties

Tamil Manila Congress’s first general council meet elects him President
Chennai: Call it caution or innate benevolence, TMC (Tamil Manila Congress) president G.K. Vasan took the wind out of his own sail by going soft on the two Dravidian majors while hitting out at the BJP at the party’s maiden general council meet here on Friday.Expected to pack a punch, a cautious Vasan, who was elected party president unanimously in a packed community hall in suburban Vanagaram near here, picked holes in the 11-month-old Modi regime, particularly its furtherance of communal agenda instead of taking the Dravidian majors head on, especially when he aspires to make TMC “numero uno” party of the state in 2016.
Perhaps keeping in mind an election year head, Vasan almost avoided even a mention of any of the Tamil Nadu parties, including Congress in his speech, which was a wee bit short for the inaugural general council meet.Vasan’s diplomacy was telling when he said, “TN has slowed down. Hesitation is conspicuous. There is a delay in delivery of services to the people.”
The only criticism of the Dravidian majors was his allegation that TN politics had digressed from being growth and development oriented to power and authority oriented in the last 48 years, apparently referring to the reign of the DMK and AIADMK.
The rest of his comments on TN were largely about the necessity to find solution to its various issues like Cauvery and Palar river water sharing, Mullaiperiyar dam and fishermen row with Sri Lanka.
