Showers lash Telangana, Andhra Pradesh
Crops in 2 states destroyed by heavy rains
Hyderabad: Another spell of unseasonal rains and gales over two days have destroyed standing crops across both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The winds uprooted power towers, while at other places trees fell on cables. There were no casualties. Heavy showers were witnessed in the city early in the morning. In Karimnagar district, over 6,000 hectares of paddy, maize and sesame and mango and papaya on 2,000 hectares were destroyed. In Warangal, 425 hectares of crops were damaged along with 121 hectares of mangoes. Reports from AP said maize, turmeric and banana in the Amaravati capital region were damaged.
Eturnagaram and Govindaraopet mandals of Warangal district recorded 7 cm rainfall on Friday; Yellandu (Khammam) 6 cm; Madakasira (Anantapur) 8 cm rainfall, Komarada (Vizianagaram) 4 cm and Podili mandal of Prakasam, 3 cm. The Met department has issued a one-day caution of thunderstorms with isolated hailstorms or squalls warning for all districts in Rayalaseema and TS. Rain, with or without hail, would occur at a few places in Telangana for the next two days.
