Only Jameela Prakasam serious about seeking justice
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Notwithstanding the LDF’s siege of the secretariat and collectorates on Thursday in protest against the harassment of women MLAs in the Assembly, it has no tangible plans to bring the accused MLAs to justice.
Ms Jameela Prakasam, JDU MLA, is the only legislator waging a single-handed battle for justice. She had filed a private complaint at the Additional CJM court here against Congress legislators K. Sivadasan Nair and Dominic Presentation alleging that they had physically and mentally harassed her during the violence in the Assembly on the budget day on March 13.
The other four MLAs, E.S. Bijimol and Geetha Gopi of the CPI and K.K. Latheeka and K.S. Saleekha of the CPM, are yet to file private complaints.
The enthusiasm shown initially by the LDF leadership to get the UDF legislators booked appears to be missing now.
Ms Jameela Prakasam said she had decided to move the court as the speaker and the government had failed to act on the complaint filed by her soon after the incident. “The police have not sent anyone to record my statement even 42 days after the incident,” she added.
When asked why the LDF women legislators were not taking similar steps to bring their attackers to justice, she hoped her colleagues would also take the legal route soon.
“Let’s see what the government says when the case comes up before the ACJM on May 2. We will take further steps to get justice,” she added.
The LDF had held a series of meetings across districts to mobilise public opinion against the UDF legislators, she said.
