Madras High Court moved against Kamal Hassan’s new movie
Petitioner Thangam Cinemas has objected release of film Uttama Villain
Chennai: Shortly before Kamal’s big budget film, Uttama Villain hitting the theatres across the worldwide, a petition has been filed in the Madras high court to prevent its release.
In the petition, M/s. Thangam Cinemas, represented by its partner S. Thangaraj, Valasaravakkam, submitted that his company was involved in the distributing and producing films. Under the banner of Ms Thirupathi Brothers Film Media Private Ltd, Director, N. Lingusamy and N. Subash Chandra Bose were engaged in producing film starred by Kamal Hassan, Pooja Kumar, Parvathi and Andrea in the lead roles.
The film, directed by Ramesh Aravind, has been scheduled to release on May 1. Bose sought financial support to produce the film and obtained a loan of Rs 2 crore from Thangaraj. In turn, the production house had agreed to enter into an agreement by creating a charge on copyright of the film and distribution rights in Chengalpattu in favour of Thangam Cinemas for a period five years. Later, Thangam Cinemas was appointed as distributor to distribute release and exhibit the film in the area and this was acknowledge by the production house in a letter dated June 12, 2014.
He said, “However, after completing the film, Thangaraj came to know that Thirupathi Brothers have made arrangement to release the film by entering into a Film Distribution Rights Agreement with M/s.Eros International Media Limited with a malafide intention of cheating him”.
