CPM views Kochi Metro slowdown seriously

CPM to take the initiative in rallying like-minded parties on Metro pace

Kochi: CPM Ernakulam district secretary P Rajeev said on Friday that the party has taken serious note of the lack of interest on the part of the State government in pushing the Kochi Metro project and the party will join with like-minded parties and organisations to take up the issue.

“There are several drawbacks in the government’s handling of the project,” he said while speaking at a meet-the-press- programme in Kochi on Friday.

“There are reports that the work has got stopped at some places; land acquisition in the Vyttila-Petta stretch is yet to be taken up despite the Ernakulam District Cooperative Bank offering a loan. This warrants a serious intervention by the people cutting across party lines.”

He pointed out that several projects which are essential for the development of the city have been in limbo for several years.

“The land for the Pullepady- Thammanam road had been frozen for acquisition for decades but nothing happens. The government must take steps for the time-bound completion of these projects,” he said.

He said the CPM launched the ‘Jaiva Jeevitham’ which promotes organic farming project because it seeks to offer an answer to the crass profiteering models of capitalism.”

The formation of the Kanivu Action Force which offers palliative care and help in emergency situations also follows the same principle, he said.
