CM Oomen Chandy promises aid to returnee nurses
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oomen Chandy has agreed to look into several demands by thousands of nurses who returned from war ravaged region of Yemen
The state government has also agreed to coordinate with the local passport office and reissue passports to many of those whose passports were withheld by Yemeni employers, hoping to prevent their return.
The nurses will receive assistance in finding employment in other gulf countries and all certificates which have been lost in Yemen will be reissued if the certificates were issued by the Kerala state government.
The nurses’ also demanded that their education loans should be written off like in the case of most nurses who had returned from Libya.
“Chief Minister Oomen Chandy has asked us to submit loan details, name of the bank and amount to be paid off,” said S. Mini who had led the group.
They also asked that the state government to revise the existing, outdated staff deployment pattern and accommodate few nurses in the state government hospital.
“There should be a decent minimum pay package for nurses in private hospital to prevent the out flow of nurses to foreign countries,” said K.J. Sheela another representative from the group.
