KCR asks farmers not to lose heart, promises to help in every way

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar on Friday appealed to farmers not to lose heart even in times of crop failure and assured them that the TRS government was everything it could to mitigate their hardships. Mr Rao’s appeal came in the backdrop of Telangana a witnessing a spate of suicides by farmers following loss of crops on account of drought during the Kharif season and the ongoing spell of unseasonal rains in the Rabi season.
The National Human Rights Commission had also taken a serious view of the issue on Thursday and directing the government to submit a report on farmers suicides.
Delivering the concluding speech at the TRS party’s plenary session held at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here, Mr Rao said, “Farmers have suffered huge losses due to the recent unseasonal rains. The government will extend all assistance to the affected farmers. Collectors are currently assessing the damage caused to crops.”
He said as soon as the government gets the reports, it would pay suitable compensation. “I request farmers not to lose heart over crop failure and resort to extreme steps. The government will always stand by the farmers in every situation.” Mr Rao stated that the government had succeeded in overcoming the power problem within 10 months through determination and the same policy would be adopted in the case of pending irrigation projects by completing them at the earliest on priority.
“Once the power position and the irrigation situation are improved, it will automatically improve the agriculture sector. Farmers can produce better yields and earn decent incomes,” the CM said.
Reiterating that the government was committed to providing “corruption-free administration,” Mr Rao said, “The government will ensure that not a single company or factory in the state get closed henceforth. We will support crisis-ridden factories and companies by providing incentives. We will encourage those who come forward to set up new industries. This will help create more job opportunities for our people.”
Earlier, besides Mr Rao, IT minister K.T. Rama Rao, irrigation minister T. Harish Rao and party MP K. Kavitha were mobbed wherever they went. Dr K. Keshava Rao, Deputy CMs Kadiam Srihari, Mohd Mahmood Ali, ministers Padma Rao, T. Srinivas Yadav and others greeted the CM.
Former health minister T. Rajaiah sat among the legislators. Many women leaders and workers came in pink sarees and khandwas, some carried Bathukamma while pink coloured ballons and hangings adorned the stadium.
