Sainikpuri roads dug up
Roads in bad shape due to work for Water Grid project
Hyderabad: Since February, the roads in Defence Colony, Sainikpuri, have been dug up continuously by civic and private agencies. In a bid to lay pipelines, officials have dug up roads everywhere making life miserable for commuters in the area. Private telecom colonies have done their own share of digging as well.
Retired state government employee Rohan Kulkarni of Defence Colony said, “In November last year, officials had cleaned up the streets, laid new roads and decorated the entire area with huge cut-outs of the TS Chief Minister along with various TRS leaders. The Chief Minister had then laid the foundation of the Telangana Water Grid project at Defence Colony near Sainikpuri. The government had said that it would complete the project in a record time of three-and-a-half months. However, almost three months after the inauguration, citizens of the area are facing a new problem.”
“We appreciate the initiative of the government, but does it have to come at the price of good roads? The roads were newly laid just before the Chief Minister came but, were dug up within a month after that,” said Raghu Prasad Murthy, a resident of Sai Baba temple area, Sainikpuri.
Though the pipelines were laid quickly and the ditches filled, the roads haven’t been repaired yet. “We cannot let our children wander off as they might fall into one of the deep holes and hurt themselves. The roads are going to stay like this for a while now, unless of course, the chief minister visits again,” said vexed residents.
Officials of the Water Board’s technical wing said that works were almost complete in most of Sainikpuri and the situation was being monitored on a day-to-day bases. They said that the digging was supposed to be completed by March end, however, it has been delayed due to many technicalities, the recent rains also did not help. Supervisors have been instructed to complete the work as soon as possible.
