Gitam University observes World Book Day in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: The Knowledge Resource Centre of Gitam University celebrated the World Book Day on Thursday. World Book Day, observed on April 23 every year, is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading.

The occasion has been introduced by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. The university celebrated the event by lighting of the lamp and organising a discourse on the significance of reading and the relevance of library for knowledge dissemination.

On the occasion, Gitam Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Subrahmanyam said books are the legacies that a genius leaves behind for the human race, which trickles down from generation to generation. Mr Subrahmanyam also stressed on the need of book reading habit in academic institutions in the wake of internet era. The V-C suggested the university faculty to convert their research topics into publications and apply for copyrights to protect Intellectual Property Rights.
