Don’t violate net user freedom: R. Chandrashekhar

According to Nasscom president only subscriber should decide what he wants to access
Chennai: Advocating net neutrality and urging the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to let users to exercise their right of choice, Nasscom, the industrial body for IT companies, said that only the subscriber should decide what s/he wants to access and in what manner. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Nasscom Global In — House Centres conclave 2015 in the city on Thursday, Nasscom president R. Chandrashekhar said that Nasscom had submitted its view to Trai on net neutrality, in which it said that the freedom of the user should not be violated.
“We have such a strong and vibrant ecosystem for entrepreneurship and innovation. If we do not have net neutrality, then many of the small and innovative companies will not be allowed to offer their services, either because of commercial or regulatory restrictions,” he said.
Pointing out that the Union government needs to define net neutrality appropriately, the Nasscom head said that in different countries the term is interpreted in different ways. “Net neutrality creates an open and level playing field to facilitate innovation, adoption and inclusion. It is essential to synergise adoption of internet platforms and innovation driven models with growth of telecom infrastructure,” Mr Chandrashekhar added.
