CM Oommen Chandy announces 7 projects for Kochi
Kochi: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced seven key projects for Ernakulam district while kick-starting ‘Karuthal 2015’, the fourth edition of his mass contact programme, on the Collectorate premises.
The projects are a centralised sewerage treatment plant for resolving the waste disposal issues, starting tender process for the Kochi cancer centre, proceedings for realising the city gas project to bring piped cooking gas to households, creating floating markets by cleaning up canals, a logistics park for easy handling of cargo, a rural BPO for giving IT training to students from villages and resolving problems linked to title deeds.
The chief minister said Rs 5 crore was sanctioned for preparing a detailed project report for centralised sewerage treatment plant. He said tender would soon be floated for finding a suitable partner for setting up the cancer centre at Kalamassery on the annuity model.
Distribution of cooking gas through pipes to homes will be first implemented in Kochi. In order to resolve the issues pertaining to acquisition of land for laying the pipeline, a meeting of elected representatives and persons concerned will be called soon, he said.
Floating Markets will be set up by clearing the wastes in the canals in the district. Such markets will be set up in places like Marine Drive too.
He said the Logistics Park would be set up to ease the traffic on the Vallarpadam container terminal road and to provide a resting place for workers and for parking trucks to the terminal. Walkways will be constructed by the container road which will be beautified as part of the project.
Rural BPO project aims at providing insight into the field of IT for students from rural areas. The Departments of Revenue and Forest will work jointly for resolving the issues related to distribution of title deeds in a time-bound manner.
The venue of the event witnessed heavy rush from early morning. There were 7,562 petitions for his consideration. From them, 100 selected petitions were heard by the chief minister in person. Special seats were arranged for them at the venue while volunteers accompanied them to the chief minister.
