Bengaluru: Rowdy sheeter attacks cop, shot
BENGALURU: A notorious rowdy-sheeter was shot by the police after he allegedly attacked a sub-inspector with lethal weapons when the police tried to arrest him at his hideout in Hegganahalli in the city. The injured rowdy was later arrested by the police.
The accused is Nagaraju alias Spot Naga (23), resident of Kamala Nagar in Basaveshwaranagar police station limits. Spot Naga has over half a dozen cases pending against him. Recently, Nagaraju along with his aides had committed a dacoity in a house in Rajagopalanagar police station limits and had allegedly robbed a home alone woman Geetha K. While the police had arrested the other gang members, Spot Naga was on the run. He was wanted in extortion, robbery and dacoity cases.
According to the police, sub inspector Waseem Ullah, attached with Rajagopalanagar police station, received a tip-off on Wednesday night around 1.10 am about Spot Naga, the notorious rowdy sheeter hiding in an open space near Konega garments.
Speaking with DC, SI Waseem Ullah said, “I alerted my counterparts and left for the hide out on my bike. Upon reaching the spot around 1.15 am, I noticed Nagaraju, who was trying to flee the spot and asked him to surrender. In order to escape, Nagaraju attacked me with a machete on my arm and thigh following which I fell on the ground. While Nagaraju tried to attack me further, I shot him at his left leg and injured him in self defense.”
Meanwhile, the other policemen reached the spot and shifted the duo to M S Ramaiah hospital. While SI Waseem Ullah was treated as an out patient, the rowdy sheeter is undergoing treatment in the hospital. Rowdy sheeter Nagraju alias Spot Naga has cases of dacoity, robbery and extortion registered against him in Rajgopalanagar, Basaveshwaranagar, Kamakshipalya and Vijaynagar police stations.
A case has been registered at Rajgopalanagar police station. "Naga who was also involved in a rape case would video tape the scene to target rich people and used to threaten the victims that the video would be uploaded on websites if they failed topay up. We have decided to book him under the Goonda Act," a senior police officer said.
