KCR says electronic giant is in talks with TS

Hyderabad: Asserting that power cuts in the state were things of the past, the Chief Minister, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, on Wednesday laid out a red carpet to existing and new industries to expand and invest in Telangana.
The CM said that electronic giant Samsung had evinced keen interest in setting up a $100 million hardware plant near Hyderabad and the IT and industry ministers were dealing with the issue.
“Telangana has overcome power cuts; there won’t be any load shedding. You will soon have 24x7 power supply and hassle-free and corruption-free clearances in two weeks. Please invest, we will give full support,” he said.
Accusing chief ministers of undivided Andhra Pradesh of playing with the lives of Telangana people and neglecting the region over the years, Mr Rao sarcastically said that the number of foundation stones that they had laid would be enough to construct projects across Godavari and Krishna rivers.
The CM made the comments when Zaheerabad Congress MLA J. Geeta Reddy and also Zaheerabad MP B.B. Patil complained that though the TRS government had sanctioned ITI, irrigation projects and 220 kV substations, they were yet to take off.
“…Telangana suffered a lot. We achieved the state after sacrificing sweat and blood. Andhra chief ministers took us for a ride. What did Telangana get? Only foundation stones but no schemes, no money and no water,” Mr Rao remarked.
When Ms Reddy tried to intervene, Mr Rao said he was not talking about Zaheerabad alone but the entire Telangana. He asked Mahindra & Mahindra to ensure jobs for locals since the government had provided land, water, power and other incentives.
He was addressing a function after inaugurating a new Rs 250-crore extended plant for commercial four wheelers code named P601 at Mahindra & Mahindra in Zaheerabad of Medak district here on Wednesday.
The CM even surprised the gathering by taking to the wheels and driving a new vehicle inside the plant. He also handed over a GO, reducing input VAT tax from 14.5 per cent to five per cent for M&M, as a special case on their request.
Expressing surprise at the import of all major manufacturing components in the plant, he said the Telangana government would follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan of “Make in India” and encourage R&D.
He said he would personally vet new investors to weed out fake applicants. “All clearances for new industries will be done in two weeks.” He also announced setting up of an ITI, Polytechnic college and skill development centre in Zaheerabad soon.
