No action on scholar suicide, Hyderabad Central University rapped

Rs 7 lakh compensation was given to the family of the deceased
Hyderabad: Justice S. C. Sinha, member of NHRC on Wednesday expressed displeasure at the apathy of authorities of the Hyderabad Central University in taking action in the suicidal death of Venkatesh, a research scholar.
He was hearing a complaint by Centre for Dalit Studies seeking action against the vice-chancellor of the HCU and others allegedly responsible for the death. The complainants alleged M. Venkatesh, a Dalit PhD scholar from Advanced Centre for Research in High Energy Materials in the campus consumed poison on November 24, 2014 after his pleas for a guide and doctoral committee went unheard by the varsity for months.
The authorities of the varsity said Venkatesh joined the course in 2011 and he was provided Professor Tiwari as a guide till April 2013 and after his retirement, Professor Muralidharan was made his guide. A committee headed by retired Justice Ramaswamy was constituted to inquire into the death of Venkatesh and the committee submitted its reports by making some remarks, and Rs 7 lakh compensation was given to the family of the deceased, the authorities added.
While asking C.V. Anand, commissioner of police Cyberabad to monitor investigation of the case, the judge granted time to the HCU to submit action taken report.
