KSRTC to sport ‘professional look’
Kochi: The KSRTC staff would soon sport a professional look by wearing boots and with their shirts tucked in as part of a new dress code replacing the ‘kakki’ introduced over three decades ago.
“The dress code will be implemented step-by-step across various categories of employees and by taking the unions into confidence,” said KSRTC Managing Director Antony Chacko.
In the first phase, the ‘kakki’ uniform of checking inspectors will be changed to black pants and pale yellow shirts. They have to wear boots and tuck in their shirts. The Vigilance and the special squads will wear uniforms from now onwards -- black pants and white shirts, sources said.
“We’re in the process of making the organisation professional on the lines of the profit-making Karnataka State RTC. Dress code is an important ingredient. We’ve already started appointing highly-qualified personnel at the decision-making level. However, a complete transformation would take place only in ten years,” Mr Antony Chacko said.
On April 12, the Kerala Urban Road Transport Corporation, a subsidiary of KSRTC, was rolled out with 400 hi-tech low-floor buses under it operating in districts like Kozhikode and Alappuzha among others.
The KSRTC director board is also considering a proposal to change the uniform of conductors and drivers of all services to sky blue shirts and navy colour pants. The opinion of the unions is being sought on the matter.
