India Meteorological Department predicts 'below normal' monsoon this season
The country is likely to witness a 'below normal' monsoon this season, for a second consecutive year
New Delhi: In its first forecast, the India Meteorological Department has predicted the country is likely to witness a “below normal” monsoon this season, for a second consecutive year, partly blaming the El Nino phenomenon for this.
The IMD said parts of northwest and central India may face the brunt, with less rainfall. Union minister for science and technology Harsh Vardhan said on Wednesday the monsoon would be 93 per cent of the Long Period Average, which is below normal.
