IAS officer DK Ravi's death: CBI team arrives in Bengaluru city, takes over probe

The CBI officials met the CID officer, who was investigating the case before it was handed over to the CBI

Bengaluru: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday formally took over the investigation into the ‘unnatural death’ of the 2009 batch IAS officer D.K. Ravi of Karnataka cadre, who was found hanging in his official residence in the city on March 16.

A team of Special Crime Branch of the CBI, New Delhi headed by Superintendent of Police Krishnamurthy arrived in the city on Wednesday and visited the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Carlton House.

Official sources confirmed to this newspaper that the CBI officials met the CID officer, who was investigating the case before it was handed over to the CBI, and collected the files including the forensic report of the crime scene, the autopsy report and the viscera reports of the deceased officer.

The CBI team will first visit the scene of crime – the late IAS officer’s official residence at St John’s Wood Apartment on Tavarekere Main Road and question the family members of Mr Ravi, his batchmate and IAS officer, who the officer was in regular touch with and had reportedly sent his last message on WhatsApp and his personal staff including his official driver, who last drove his boss from his office in Koramangala to his residence that day.

The IAS officer friend had voluntarily contacted the police and CID to record her statement. Last week, the CBI had registered a preliminary enquiry for investigation of the case registered under UDR no, 47/2015 under Sec. 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code on March 16, 2015 at Madiwala police station into the unnatural death of Mr. Ravi, who was working as additional commissioner, Commercial Tax (enforcement).
