Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police will produce slain former air hostess Ritu’s husband Sachin Uppal, arrested on murder charges, in a local court on Thursday. The investigating officials are also likely to press charges against his parents for harassing Ritu and her family in the past.
Investigation officials are also started probing if Ritu was smothered by Sachin in a fit of rage. “Prima facie, there is a suggestion that there is a possibility of smothering. We have not found any blunt weapons from the scene. The confession of the accused also points to the angle of smothering,” said a senior police official from Malkajgiri.
According to Ritu’s relatives, Sachin’s parents had also harassed her in the past while they were living with the couple. They moved out later, but kept on persuading Sachin to torture her to get more dowry. “She was pregnant, and we did not approach police then thinking of the future of her kid,” said a relative.
Ritu’s parents also alleged there were days Sachin refused food to Ritu when she was pregnant. They alleged he was aggressive and sadistic all the time. The police arrested Sachin after booking a case for murder and dowry death. Ritu’s final rites were performed on Tuesday after post-mortem examination.
