Hyderabad: One person died and at least eight others were injured when two cars rammed into each other on the Outer Ring Road at Suthadiguda village in Medchal on Wednesday afternoon.
The victims in a Qualis were on their way to the Rajiv Gandhi International airport to see off a relative when an i20 car jumped the road divider and rammed into it. The i20 caught fire, but its driver escaped. The police suspect the i20 car’s tyres were damaged resulting in the mishap.
The mishap occurred between 3 pm to 4 pm, when Mohammed Ismail, 55 and his family members, around ten of them, all natives of Nizamabad were on their way to the airport to see off his son Wajawat.
Medchal inspector K. Shashank Reddy said that when their car reached the ORR near Suthadiguda, an i20 car driven by one Venkatesh, coming from Gachibowli towards Medchal, lost control and jumped the divider.
“Mr Ismail suffered grievous injuries and died instantly. Wajawat and others, including a child in the car, were injured. Venkatesh hurt his back,” said Mr Reddy. Mr Venkatesh’s car was gutted in the fire soon after the accident, however, he managed to escape. The injured were shifted to private hospitals. The Medchal police booked a negligence case against Mr Venkatesh. He is a businessman and a resident of Manikonda. The police is investigating.
Woman driver hits cart, 2 hurt:
A woman crashed her SUV into an ice-cream cart and injured two young passersby and the vendor after midnight on Tuesday at Banjara Hills. The car’s three occupants, all women, abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot before the police arrived. The cops were unable to confirm whether the driver was drunk when the accident took place.
The Banjara Hills police has said that the accused driver is suspected to be the relative of Dr K. Anji Reddy, the founder of Dr Reddy Laboratories as the car, a white Honda CRV (AP 09 CQ 5544), is registered to Dr Reddy’s Labs. The police has confiscated the car.
Two driving licenses bearing the names — Mallika Reddy and Sanjana Reddy — were found in the car, but the cops said that they were still to confirm who was driving. “We are yet to confirm the identity of the accused driver. It is also yet to be ascertained whether the driver was drunk or not,” said West Zone DCP A. Venkateswara Rao.
Two of the injured — Abdul Salam, a mobile phone technician from Bhoalpur, and his friend Mohammed Ibrahim — were shifted to a hospital. Banjara Hills police said the ice-cream vendor only suffered minor injuries.
The accident took place at around 12.45 am on Road Number 12. “The fast-moving Honda CRV car rammed into the cart and hit three people before it stopped. The trio were injured and the cart was completely damaged,” said a police official.
Mr Salam and Mr Ibrahim were coming from Masab Tank to Road Number 12 Banjara Hills via KBR Park when they stopped for an ice-cream. They lodged a police complaint early on Wednesday, after which police booked a case and started investigation
