Passenger who said ‘hijack’ harmless
Mr Shareef got bail after he was produced before the court
Hyderabad: Friends and relatives of Yusuf Shareef, who used the word ‘hijack’ while speaking to an air hostess on a flight from Dubai, say that he is a talker, but harmless.
After running a background check with the help of Counter Intelligence agencies, Cyberabad police officials said that Mr Shareef, who was arrested for saying “hijack” to a cabin crew member on board an Air India flight, is clean. Mr Shareef got bail after he was produced before the court.
“We have not found anything suspicious about him so far in the background check. He was produced before the court and released on bail,” said Shamshabad DCP Srinivas.
According to Mr Shareef’s schoolmate, who lives near his house in Tappachabutra, he is a funny guy. “He studied with me in high school in this area and he used to talk and boast a lot. But, he was harmless, and he never got into any trouble,” said his friend. Before going to Dubai, Mr Shareef was doing some petty jobs in the city, his friend added.
Mr Shareef’s family, relieved after he came home getting bail, refused to talk to the media. He and his family also fear that his job in Dubai might be affected. After Mr Shareef reached Hyderabad, he was with the police for over 20 hours. Initially he was interrogated and taken to different places to confirm his identity and background. The Air India air hostess, who refused to take a selfie with Mr Shareef alerted the pilot after he said “hijack” to her.
