Reconsider stand on Right to Service Act: Anbumani Ramadoss

Ramadoss said that it only shows that state government has no intention to weed out corruption
Chennai: A day after Tamil Nadu government informed Madras HC that the Right to Services Act was not necessary for the state, PMK youth-wing president Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday urged the state government to reconsider its stand and enact RTS Act to provide time-bound service. Terming the government stand anti-people, he said that it only shows that the state government has no intention to weed out corruption.
“Desperate attempts to obtain government services through indirect means when they are not available by direct ways is the major cause for corruption,” he said, in a statement.
To prevent corruption and ensure time-bound delivery of public services, he said that RTS Act is enacted in 20 states. “Since RTS is enacted in a constitutional institution, if any government employee fails to comply with the timescale and other provisions in providing service to the public they can be punished and even fined and the fine may be given as compensation for the lapse to the public requesting service.
Only in such a situation the common man will become the boss and the rulers and government servants will become true public servants,” he said, adding that the schemes presented by the Tamil Nadu government in the high court will not give any benefit. He assured that if PMK was elected to power, it would enact RTS and Lok Ayuktha act within six months of coming to power.
