Sarakki: 10 building owners get stay order
BENGALURU: The urban administration, which is demolishing properties around Sarakki Lake, has suffered a setback as a few property owners have obtained status quo orders from the court.
Assistant Commissioner (South) L.C. Nagaraj said the court has sanctioned status quo for around 10 buildings. “Six of those orders have reached us, and we will not touch those properties,” he said.
The urban administration authorities are facing a contempt charge for demolition of a portion of the compound wall of Nandini Lake View Apartment. The building occupants have obtained the order that will be effective till April 30. The authorities will, however, submit a compliance report on April 30 and seek to vacate the stay through the advocate general. On Monday, authorities cleared the debris around the lake.
“The authorities will go slow on demolition until the stays are vacated. Demolishing smaller buildings will send a wrong signal. As far as an apartment built by Puravankara is concerned, the compound wall has encroached into the lake. The structure is built on buffer zone. However, the building owners claim that it was built before 2006 when the buffer zone was created. This challenge will be questioned in court,” said Mr Nagaraj.
