KOZHIKODE: The JD (United) has no plan to leave the UDF now though the air is thick with rumours on its exit in the backdrop of the neglect it suffers from the front and the new shift in the CPM central leadership signalling an expansion of pro-Left political front, according to sources.
A recent meeting of the JD (U) held here had decided to keep off the UDF programmes protesting against the UDF attitude.
JD (U) state president M.P. Veerendrakumar said on Tuesday that he would not inaugurate the UDF rally of Kozhikode zone which would be headed by IUML state general secretary KPA Majeed.
It may be recalled that Mr Veerendrakumar had to bow out from the LDF after antagonising the Pinarayi faction and siding with Mr V.S. Achuthanandan on various issues.
The exit of Mr Pinarayi as state secretary and the elevation of Mr Sitaram Yechury as general secretary have led to speculations that the JD(U) may go back to the old stable.
Mr Veerendrakumar’s demand the other day that the party should be given its due share has added credibility to the speculation.
However, the JD (U) state leadership pointed out that without a discussion at the national level, no crucial decisions would be taken on the issue.
Even at the state level, the party is yet to discuss parting of ways with the UDF and the ongoing fight is only to ensure a better position in the UDF, according to leaders.
JD(U) leader M.V. Shreyamskumar MLA told Deccan Chronicle that in UP and Bihar the ‘Left’ is part of the coalition headed by the Congress and that there is not much difference between the two.
“At this point, we aim at sorting out the issues within the UDF,” he added. However, he refused to say what the party would do if the UDF refused to address the grievances raised by Mr Veerendrakumar.
