AAP to hold farmers rally at Jantar Mantar, calls off march to Parliament

The rally will be addressed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday will hold a farmers rally at Jantar Mantar to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government's Land Bill, after calling off the proposed march to Parliament.

The Delhi Police has reportedly denied the permission for the march to the Parliament. The rally will be addressed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

According to reports, farmers from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Odisha and the Bundelkhand and Poorvanchal belt of Uttar Pradesh will also participate in the rally.

In another development, AAP has removed its parliamentary party leader Dharamvira Gandhi. The party replaced Mr Gandhi with Arvind Kejriwal loyalist and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann as the leader of the four-member group in the Lok Sabha.

As per reports, extra forces have been deployed to prevent the AAP supporters marching towards the Parliament and senior police officers would take action against anyone violating the orders.

Section 144 is already in force in the New Delhi area as the Parliament is in session.

Earlier on Tuesday, the AAP had announced a rally with the farmers of Delhi and other states to protest the Land Bill and the Central Government's attitude towards the farmers affected by crop damage.
