AAP hits out at Oommen Chandy for toeing Modi’s land Bill

The state government to bring amendments to wetland conservation law and land reforms

KOCHI: Aam Aadmi Party has accused Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy of following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s footsteps while acquiring land from farmers despite his launching a stir against the Union government’s land acquisition ordinance.

Attacking the decision of the state government to bring amendments to wetland conservation law and land reforms, AAP State convener Sara Joseph said the Congress party should also oppose Mr Chandy’s land policy.

“The Chandy government is planning to bring amendments that would enable government to takeover fallow land and fill up wetland,” she said on Tuesday. She said the term fallow land is a misnomer in the Kerala context.

“Landlords are responsible for keeping fallow land and the government should seize the land that is left uncultivated for more than three years and handover the same to farmers,” she said.

The party is organising a rally in front of the office of the Ernakulam district collector on Wednesday in solidarity with the Parliament march led by Arvind Kejriwal. Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha leader C. K. Janu will inaugurate the public meeting.
