Union Minister Giriraj Singh finally regrets racist attack on Congress President Sonia Gandhi

His regret came after House was adjourned following the din created by Congress MPs

New Delhi: With the Lok Sabha witnessing protests after the House resumed the second half of the Budget Session on Monday, Union minister of state Giriraj Singh expressed regret for his racist remarks against Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

His regret came after the House was adjourned following the din created by Congress MPs who demanded the sacking of Mr Singh from the Council of Ministers.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had allowed Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia to raise the issue after the House resumed business in the morning. She noted she too was also hurt by the remarks.

Later, Mr Singh expressed regret "if his comments had hurt anyone'. Mr Singh had asked whether the Congress would have accepted Mrs Gandhi’s leadership had she not been white-skinned. “Had Rajiv Gandhi married a Nigerian woman, and if she was not a white-skinned woman, would the Congress have then accepted her leadership,” he had asked recently.
