The VMC introduced and approved revenue budget in the council
VIJAYAWADA: The capital budget of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has been approved in the absence of the main opposition members after dramatic scenes in the council. The Council approved the budget for 2015-16 with estimations around Rs 1000 crore, including revenue budget of Rs 444.14 crore and capital budget of Rs 503.91 crore. It is the first time the council approved a Rs 1000 crores budget.
The VMC introduced and approved revenue budget in the council, with estimations of Rs 444.14 crore in March. As the MLC code was in force at that time, the ca-pital budget was not in-troduced in the council. On Monday, the mayor Koneru Sridhar introduced capital budget of VMC, with income of Rs 503.91 crore and expenditure of Rs 572.38 crore.
He said, “I am introdu-cing the capital budget for 2015-16 and revised budget for 2014-15, which are approved by the standing committee on April 9. As the city is a part of the state capital region, we need to develop it. We have brought Rs 462 crore from the Centre with CM’s help for the construction of storm water drains. The state government also released Rs 47.52 crore for relief works for avoiding inundation due to Buda-meru. Though VMC is facing financial crisis at the time our swearing in, we wanted this budget to be more people friendly.”
We wanted to see more developmental activities in year by constructing and development of roads, providing LED lights, furniture to schools, equipment to gyms, tools to sanitation department, constructing school buildings, bridges, sub ways, Dhobhi ghats and solar project in the city. As part of Swatch Bharat and Cleanness drive, we allocated funds for construction of individual and public toilets, gardens, new parks, development of greenery on dividers and roadsides.”
