K Chandrasekhar Rao's term as TRS president extended by two years
He was unanimously re-elected as party president
Hyderabad: Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao was unanimously re-elected as party president. Home minister Nayani Narasimhan Reddy, who was returning officer for the election held at Telangana Bhavan, the party headquarters in Banjara Hills, annou-nced he got only Mr Rao’s nomination till the 2 pm deadline on Monday for the post of TRS president.
The re-election of Mr Rao for another two-year term which was a foregone conclusion will be announced at the plenary being held at the Lal Bahadur Stadium on April 24. Several party leaders greeted KCR on his re-election.
Mr Rao quit as Deputy Speaker and announced formation of TRS at Jaladrusyam on banks of Hussainsagar Lake on April 27, 2001 and has been heading the party since then. “Only Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s name was proposed for the party president. I received six sets of nomination papers. I waited till 3 pm but none others have filed,” Mr Reddy said.There were rumours Mr Rao may have a working president of the party in view of his busy schedule, but it faded out.
Deputy Chief Ministers Kadiam Srihari and Mohd. Mahamood Ali, energy minister G. Jagdish Reddy, Balka Suman, B.B. Patil, MPs Somavarapu Sathyanarayana, MLA others backed CM.
Mr Reddy said a large number of people from Seemandhra living in Hyderabad including places like Malkajgiri, Kukatpally and other areas took TRS party membership. “TRS has no ill-will towards ordinary Seemaandhra people, but differ with political leaders. Even in Hyderabad which is considered weakest, 30,000 people have enrolled as active members and one lakh in L B Nagar,” he said.
