CM Chandrababu Naidu warns HNSS contractors
No more delay in completion of pending works, says Chandrababu Naidu
Anantapur: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu issued stringent warning to contractors of Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanti Irrigation project, asking them to hasten pace of the pending works. “Don’t play with lives of drought-hit people as the government had hiked SSR rates for the works. We will even use police force to finish project works if such circumstances occurred,” said an angry Mr Naidu.
The CM visited Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanti Irrigation project, works at Gollapalli reservoir and attended Neeru-Chettu programme, in the district on Monday. He arrived by a special aircraft to Puttaparthi airport where he celebrated his birthday with students.
Later, he visited Gollapalli reservoir to assess the progress of ongoing works. The CM was upset with the delay at many reaches and long pending works in the second phase of the project. “We are committed to complete the project within scheduled period and to release water by the year end,” said Mr Naidu, adding that the government was also ready to clear bills once in a fortnight.
He warned the contractors of punishment in case of delay. He directed the engineers and contractors to meet him for detailed review of each aspect of the project. He spent more than an hour at Gollapalli reservoir site.
In a public meeting held on the occasion, he reiterated that drought would be eradicated in the district by interlinking Godavari and Krishna and other small rivers that would help to use at least 1500 tmc ft every year. The CM also celebrated his birthday at the public meeting venue by cutting a cake.
Mr Naidu talked of producing a variety of fruits at Anantapur and assured to compensate farmers affected by recent untim-ely rains at par with Hudhud victims. The CM formally launched Neeru-Chettu programme at Kuntimaddi Cheruvu by operating JCB in Ramagiri mandal. Speaking on the occasion, he said gram sabhas would be held from May 1 to May 10 to create awareness among the people about protecting groundwater sources. Ministers Devineni Umamaheswar Rao, Palle Raghunath Reddy and Paritala Sunitha accompanied him.
