Chittoor killings: Plea to stop Andhra Pradesh police from entering Tamil Nadu

Thangam said that police registered false case against his brother Ravi

Chennai: A petition was filed in the Madras high court on Monday seeking direction to Central and AP governments to release innocent people from Tamil Nadu arrested by Andhra Pradesh on charges of cutting and smuggling red sanders.

Petitioner S. Thangam of Vyasarpadi submitted that his brother, Ravi, was illegally taken from Chennai by AP police in a clandestine manner on January 24, 2015. Violating various provisions in CrPC, the police took him to Renigunta police station without informing the TN police and nearby judicial officials.

Though Renigunta police arrested Ravi in Chennai on January 24, 2015, and the police claimed that they had arrested him in Andhra Pradesh on January 27. The police registered false case against him alleging that he was involved in cutting and smuggling red sanders. His family members were kept in dark about the detention. He was subjected to inhuman treatment in the police station.
