Hyderabad: Most eve-teasers justify teasing
Hyderabad: Most eve-teasers feel that it’s not a crime to pester a woman and that women themselves are responsible for eve teasing as they “move around freely.”
The eve-teasers think that teasing women is a socially accepted practice, revealed a survey-cum-counselling session conducted among arrested eve-teasers by the Cyberabad police. Police also found that eve-teasing was more an act of violence rather than an deed driven by the sexual urge.
The police and counsellors had prepared a questionnaire aimed at finding the attitude of eve-teasers towards women. “Over 80 per cent said that they didn’t feel that it was wrong to tease a woman and thought it was acceptable in society. They also say that by moving freely women are making themselves vulnerable to teasing and they themselves are responsible for such incidents,” said SHE team head Rama Rajeswari. Most eve-teasers belonged to nuclear families with very less parental supervision.
The Cyberabad police conducted the survey following an order by police commissioner C.V. Anand.
