World's fastest train in Japan records speed of 603 kilometers per hour
Japanese maglev train breaks it own world world speed record
The Japanese maglev (magnetic levitation) train went up 603 kilometers per hour during an experimental track in Yamanashi, Japan and set the new world record. According to BBC, the train beat the 590km/hour speed it had set last week in another test.
These trains use electrically charged magnets to lift and move carraiges across the railway tracks. The train aims to cover a 280km journey in 40 minutes which is less than half the current time, betwen Tokyo and Nagoya.
Currently, China operates the world's fastest commercial maglev, which can go upto 431 kilometers per hour on a route through Shanghai while Amtrak's Acela Express in United States is only capable of a maximum of 241 kilometers per hour.
