With roads dug up, rains pour misery
People had little reason to enjoy the summer showers
Bengaluru: Recent rains may have brought a huge relief from the scorching heat, but residents of Nandi Durga Road, Vasanth Nagar and Dinnur Road have had little reason to enjoy the summer showers.
For long, residents here had waited for the civic body to asphalt the roads, and just when they thought their wait came to an end, officials of other agencies thought otherwise. Moreover, the recent rains have worsened the situation, with the roads dug up.
On Sunday morning, overflowing sewage mixed with rainwater slowed traffic on Nandi Durga Road. Onlookers said that a drain line had broken and sewage overflowed on to the road for hours. “The road was dug up recently to lay pipes. Overflowing sewage only added to the existing problem,” said a passerby.
While many roads in the city are in similar condition, Dinnur main road near Hebbal too is no exception. Jayanth Rao, a resident of 7th Cross in Dinnur, said that due to the bad condition of the road, rainwater stagnated for the past few days.
“The condition of the road is really bad near Muneshwara Road on Dinnur Main Road. The officials may have not expected rains now. But it did not mean that they ought to provide us good roads only during the rainy season. It has become a tough task to cross the road,” he said.
