Kannur University to up vigil on PhD papers
Kozhikode: Following the footsteps of Calicut University, Kannur University will also soon take a number of steps to tackle plagiarism in research papers.
The varsity has already prepared an action plan and is waiting the syndicate’s approval. A team from the varsity will visit Pondicherry University to study the software that they were using to track plagiarised works.
“We have taken effective steps to deal with plagiarism,” Kannur University Registrar Dr Balachandran Keezhoth told DC.
The Calicut University Syndicate meeting on Saturday approved Comprehensive Research Plagiarism policy with effect from April 6. The research works would now be analysed using UGC approved software ‘iThenticate’ and ‘Turnitin.’
Strict verification and complaining process will be implemented as part of the new policy. The university also recommends strict action if plagiarism was detected.
Its Library Science department recently organised ‘Plagiarism and Reference Management’ meet where the participants were given training on the software programmes like Zotero, Turnitin and Endnote which tracks online plagiarism.
It was the Calicut University that awarded PhD to Kerala pro-VC Dr N. Veeramanikandan, accused of plagiarism in his research work.
