Amaravati glory behind name
Prabhakar stresses the need to work for building world-class state
Vijayawada: The media adviser to the Andhra Pradesh state government, Parakala Prabhakar, on Sunday said that the capital has been named after Amaravati due to its rich heritage.
After visiting the Akriti Art Gallery in city, he said, “The state has very rich heritage and culture. The emperors who ruled the place encouraged poets, dancers and other artists in their courts. We need to work towards the renaissance of the culture that was special and unique to Andhra Pradesh. The people of the state should get a Nobel, a Pulitzer, another Gyanpeeth award or Sahitya Academy award for literature. The Kuchipudi dance should get worldwide recognition.
The Kondapalli toys should get the glory that they enjoyed once. Though the state government will encourage the artists from state, it is the responsibility of the people to patronise it so that they would wo-rld wide recognition.”
Mr Prabhakar also said, “Amaravati is selected as the name for the state capital on the grounds, that it has a very rich history. The government would try hard to increase its value in future and make it as the home of arts.”
Parakala turns nostalgic at ALC
Sunday was a memorab-le day for over 300 students of Andhra Loyola College as they met after several decades on the college premises. The former students of the college including politicians, businessmen, lecturers and others met each other as part of Andhra Loyola College Alumni Association’s reunion programme.
Parakala Prabhakar, the communications ad-viser to the government of Andhra Pradesh, is one of the illustrious alumni of the 61-year-old college.
Mr Prabhakar while reminiscing the good old college days when he studied BA in Andh-ra Loyola College hailed his professors and Jesuits who made learning easy and memorable throughout the life.
“The basics in economics I learnt during my degree stood by me even when I went to London School of Economics and that was because of strong foundation laid by the then lecturers,” he said. He said that Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated due to several pressures and that people have a great challenge ahead - building a world-class state. “Chief Minister is touring top cities in the world and is trying to adopt the projects in th-ose countries in AP,” he said.
“It is the responsibility of every citizen to develop Andhra Pradesh at this crucial juncture and public support is more important than that of government support for building a nation. ALCAA can come forward and do their bit in building the state capital Amaravati,” he added.
ALC principal Fr G.A.P. Kishore, Rector Fr Ravi Sekhar, Correspondent Fr S. Raju, Fr Rex Angelo, ALCAA president Dr G.V. Mohan Prasad and others later felicitated Mr Prabhakar. College management also felicitated Dr GV Mohan Prasad for his remarkable services as long-term president of ALCAA till date. Malaxmi group chairperson Y.
