50 speed guns for traffic police in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Late-night racing hot-spots across the city will soon be under round-the-clock surveillance with cameras as well as fixed speed guns.
The traffic police will instal 56 speed guns; the city has just seven now. The city seven speed guns are shared by the six traffic zones, and record between 400-500 violations each day.
The speed guns are fixed manually each day at selected roads. They are rotated and used on different routes.
“To solve the problem of speed racing as well as overspeeding, 50 new speed guns will be procured; they will be put up permanently at these areas. All roads around the Hussainsagar, around KBR Park, Road No 2 Banjara Hills, Road No 10 and 36 in Jubilee Hills are some of the spots where speed guns will be placed,” said additional CP (traffic) Jitender.
The traffic police has called for tenders for speed guns and the process will take five to six months to complete. Surveillance cameras will be permanently placed at the “racing” zones to apprehend racers.
These will be installed sooner. “The idea is to check dangerous driving, mostly indulged by youngsters. To check racing at night, it is important to have stationary cameras too,” added the official.
